-- Looking Ahead
We enjoyed a very active February and look forward to an even more active March.
On February 12, 2011 the Writer's Round Up was held again in Cady Hall in Patagonia. Steve was one of the many regional writers available to sign books and talk with visitors. This event is organized annually by the Friends of the Patagonia Library to support the library.
Steve and Karen were invited to donate new works to the University of Arizona Museum of Art fund raising auction, Fresh Paint. The auction took place on the evening of February 26 with the live auction beinning at 7:30 and featuring the items with the 10 highest bids by that point. Karen's image was one of those featured in the live auction.
Steve's landscape photography was spotlighted in the January 11, 2011 issue of the widely read blog, Lenscratch. Images from two portfolios are shown and discussed. It is well worth looking at the blog author's, Aline Smithson's, website as well.
Steve and co-author Douglas Isbell will serve on a panel with University of Arizona astronomer Chris Impey at the Tucson Festival of Books on March 12. Their presentation and discussion will be at 2:30 in the Gallagher Theater. A book signing will follow the discussion.
Steve has had 10 images accepted for the Future Forward, first annual juried members' photography exhibition at the Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh. This show will open on March 22.
Karen and Steve will have a joint show at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA, opening March 24.
Steve and co-author Laura Tohe (Tséyi: Deep in the Rock, Reflections on Canyon de Chelly) will give a presentation from their book including Steve's images of Canyon de Chelly at the Tucson Lit Press Fest at the University of Arizona Poetry Center on March 26, 2 - 6 pm. Laura and Steve will give their presentation at noon. Following this presentation we will head west to attend the Palm Springs Photo Festival.
Steve and Karen were invited to take part in an exhibit, Family Ties, an exploration of artistic families, at the gallery at Tohono Chul Park. This show opened on January 13th and will run through April 3. The reception was very well attended and we enjoyed discussing our images with many of the attendees. A review of the show is available online from the Tucson Weekly.
Steve has had 3 images accepted into the 2011 Juried Exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, CA. Two of the images were shown in the CPA gallery with a third included in the online exhibit. The opening reception was held January 22 and the show will run in the gallery through March 31. We attended the opening of this fine show in Carmel and had a chance to talk with many of the photographers who attended.
The February - March issue of the online photography magazine, F-Stop: a photography magazine, with the theme of "Abstraction" includes 4 of Steve's images in the group show. Move down the matrix of images to the S's to find them.
In April we will be taking an extended trip to southeastern Utah. We hope to be able to complete the visit to the overlook of the Dirty Devil River that we missed on the last trip as a result of the totaling of our fondly remembered and much missed 4Runner II. We will begin in the Capital Reef/Hanksville area and then move to the southern Canyonlands region.
Karen has learned that she will have a solo show of works selected from her Illusions of Reality and Architectronics portfolios in September in the Porter Hall gallery at the Tucson Botanical Garden.
